Housing Association Pest Control Services

Pest control services for social housing are a top priority and should be promptly addressed to prevent infestations from spreading. Untreated infestations can extend to other flats and areas within the property, resulting in significant costs that can run into thousands of pounds for treating additional units. While some Housing Associations choose to treat both tenant's properties and communal areas, others focus solely on communal spaces and implement proofing measures to block entry points. However, it's important to note that solely sealing entry points without eradicating the infestation may not provide a long-term solution, as it can force pests to relocate within the building. Therefore, it is best practice to first eradicate the infestation before carrying out any sealing measures.

Investing in professional pest control services for social housing is a proactive approach that helps prevent the spread of infestations, minimize property damage, and save costs in the long run. By collaborating with experienced pest control professionals who understand the unique challenges of social housing, tailored solutions can be provided to address the specific needs of each property.

Prompt action and effective eradication methods are essential to ensure the well-being and comfort of tenants, protect property integrity, and create a safe and healthy living environment. Prioritizing these measures in social housing demonstrates a commitment to tenant satisfaction and enables housing associations to maintain a positive reputation.

If you are a Housing Association seeking reliable and professional pest control services for social housing, look no further. Our experienced team is dedicated to providing effective solutions tailored to your needs. Common pest problems associated with Housing Association developments

Challenges in Social Housing

Rodent Infestations – Social housing developments often face challenges with rodent infestations, particularly in refuse rooms where mice and rats are attracted. If left unaddressed, these pests can quickly spread to residential areas, posing risks to occupants.

Persistent Pigeon Problems – Solar panels installed on the roofs of many housing blocks tend to attract pigeons, leading to issues that extend beyond the rooftops. Pigeons can create nuisance and find shelter on balconies and other areas, causing inconvenience for residents.

Tackling Cockroach Infestations – Cockroaches have a rapid breeding cycle and can infest an entire block or estate in no time. Swift identification and treatment are crucial to prevent the need for costly block-wide interventions.

Combatting Textile Moth Infestations – Nowadays, textile moth infestations are a major concern in apartment blocks. These pests can cause damage to expensive carpets and fabrics if not dealt with promptly, necessitating costly repairs or replacements.

Efficient Void Clearance and Cleaning – Quick turnover of empty properties is essential for social housing. Our team specializes in efficient void clearance and cleaning services, ensuring properties are ready for re-letting in a timely manner.

Frequently asked questions

Do you cover all types of pests?

We cover the most common pests that are present in the UK.  These include rats, mice, cockroaches, fleas, bedbugs, wasps, ants, pigeons, stored product insects, and textile pests to name a few.  This list is not exhaustive and we cover many other pests and also offer an identification service for smaller and harder-to-identify pests.

Do we need to make appointments for our tenants or can you do this?

Once we have received an official order, our team take over and the housing association does not need to get involved.  We will contact the tenant directly and make all the necessary arrangements with them.  If we have any issues with contact details or any other information that may be missing we will contact you immediately.

Do you offer flexible timeslots for our tenants or do they have to wait in all day?

Our team offers four-hour time slots and can call in advance to let the tenants know we are on our way.  Our internal system will send upcoming reminders and text messages to the tenants to let them know when their appointments are booked and this will help to reduce aborted visits.  As much as possible we try to reduce the number of aborted visits and we will always confirm our appointments with the tenants by email or text initially so they know when we are coming.

Do you also carry out work against pigeons?

We have a dedicated pigeon control team and can quote for all types of pigeon control problems.  We also carry out pigeon trapping programs to reduce the number of pigeons on developments in order to reduce long-term costs. We use anti-pigeon netting, spikes, and Firegel which is an optical deterrent. We can also remove and clean pigeon fouling from plant rooms and other areas where they may have gained access.

What certifications and licenses do you hold?

We hold the following –

  • British Pest Control Association
  • Constructionline
  • Safe Contractor
  • Chas
  • CSCS

Furthermore, all of our technicians are RSPH level 2 qualified and all have enhanced DRB background checks to allow them to work within all types of sensitive environments.

Do you carry out proofing/blocking up of holes to prevent rodents from returning?

Yes as part of our normal rodent control service, we undertake minor proofing on the last visit.  As part of our rodent service, we use the latest technology of pest control equipment and materials including cameras, tracking gel, and remote tracking motion wifi cameras.  Once the job has been completed our team will take photos of any major proofing work that is required and provide you with a quotation for this additional work.

What pest control methods do you employ and are they safe for our residents and the environment?

We employ safe pest control methods prioritising resident and environmental safety through Integrated Pest Management emphasising prevention and non-chemical approaches, physical barriers preventing pest entry, non-toxic traps and baits, targeted low-toxicity pesticide applications when necessary, and CCTV monitoring detecting infestations. Methods comply with British Pest Control Association regulations, ensuring effectiveness whilst minimising risks and maintaining safety standards.
