Reliable treatment for ants in London

In a commercial environment, garden ants are more than just a problem pest. If ants are seen by your customers then this can cost you money and damage your reputation. This is particularly true in places that handle food or need to keep areas sterile. Premises like bakeries & restaurants, clinics, offices, hotels, and warehouses that process food and water need to make sure they have the highest standards of hygiene and that means being ant-free.

About garden ants
Facts about garden ants

  • Garden ants can easily access your business through the tiniest of gaps and holes. Outside, they will normally be found nesting under patios or near shrubs, so watch out for those ant trails.

  • Garden ants are normally a pest in the warmer months of the year, but mild winters can often see them emerging earlier.

  • They are considered a commercial pest as they can contaminate food and surfaces they come in contact with, so getting professional garden ant control carried out should be a priority.

  • The queen ant can live up to 15 years and in some cases, it has been claimed that they have lived to 30 years.

  • Common during the summer months in the UK, and often a nuisance in bakeries and restaurants where they forage for sweet foods.

  • The worst time of the year is during the mating season in July, dependent on the weather, when there are literally thousands flying around.

  • If we have mild winters, they can often appear earlier indoors so it is important to make sure hygiene conditions are optimum.

Garden Ants - Pied Piper Pest
Garden Ant (Lasius Niger)
Size: Male: 0.5 – 0.7 cm (Drones)
Female: 0.3 – 0.5 cm (Workers)

Appearance: Black, brown, or sometimes red.

Breeding: The entire cycle takes approximately two months from egg to adult.

In the UK, indigenous species often nest outdoors but are likely to enter properties looking for food. The common black ant (Lasius Niger) which is the main one we deal with in the Summer, is an active insect. It nests outside under block paving patios, in walls and anywhere near a food source and out of the way of the elements and it will forage a fair distance in search of food, which is how it comes to enter premises.

Foraging worker ants can cause a nuisance as they are willing to travel in search of food, following scented trails and clustering around the food source. Sweet foods are preferred, but depending on the time of the year they will also devour proteins in abundance. They can be an unpleasant sight and may damage food used for human consumption, hence the reason they need to be controlled.
